TTO WW HAT 0037 Rose Nemours Red Velvet Pleated Hat
Our Price £179.00
Stunning scarlet hat from renowned French milliner Rose Nemours of 8, Rue De La Paix Paris. Probably made in the early 1950s. A distinctly Renaissance look to this richly pleated red velvet hat. Elaborately draped to form an asymmetrical edge, but a structured cross work when viewed from above. Lined in an ivory material, possibly silk. A rare example of her work in fabulous condition. Her label is inside the rim.
The inside edge measures 21"

The Rue de la Paix, in the IIe arrondissement of Paris, though depending somewhat on historic prestige, remains one of the world's most fashionable shopping streets, known above all for its jewellers, headed by the shop opened by Cartier SA in 1898 at 13, rue de la Paix. Charles Frederick Worth was the first to open a couture house in the rue de la Paix. The street was opened in 1806 from Place Vendôme on the orders of Napoleon I, part of the Napoleonic program to open the heart of the Right Bank of Paris, both towards the undeveloped western suburbs, and to the north. The Rue de la Paix runs north from Place Vendôme and ends at the Opéra Garnier. At first named Rue Napoléon, its name was changed at the Bourbon Restoration to celebrate the Peace of 1815. The new artery was opened in 1806, requiring the demolition of the ancient Convent of the Capucins. The Rue de la Paix is the most expensive street in the French version of Monopoly.
